  • Ford, in collaboration with outdoor-clothing company Filson, has revealed this Bronco Wildland Fire Rig concept, a vehicle built to go anywhere and fight fires.
  • The concept is based on the four-door Badlands Bronco with the Sasquatch package, the most capable factory-built Bronco you can buy.
  • As a part of the collaboration, Ford and Filson are working to support the National Forest Foundation and some of its initiatives.

Ford teamed up with outdoor-clothing company Filson to create a decked-out Bronco ready to fight fires and to support the National Forest Foundation. The Bronco Wildland Fire Rig concept is equipped from bumper to bumper with the tools that wildland firefighters need on the job, while also being the quintessential off-roader to get wherever those firefighters need to go.

The concept is based on a four-door Badlands Bronco with the Sasquatch package, which makes it the most capable factory-built Bronco possible. A winch and a roof rack adorn the outside of the vehicle, along with an LED light bar. A 50-gallon water tank sits in the back alongside a water pump and fire hose, as well as a chainsaw and a high lift jack. Ford said that the concept is intended as “a model of future firefighting rigs.”

Filson-sourced materials cover the interior of the concept, including door bolsters, armrests, and seat trim in Otter Green duck fabric. The stitching through the leather seats is in a pattern inspired by the inside of Filson’s down coats. Filson logos and Filson brass are also placed throughout the interior.

That said, it’s notable that a leading cause of wild fires, climate change—a human-caused occurrence, according to scientists—is absent in the marketing and promotional material for this project and others such as Ford’s launch of the he Mach-E and the upcoming electric F-150 pickup, which are a direct response to a changing climate.

However, the concept is part of a larger collaboration between Ford and Filson to raise funds for the National Forest Foundation’s reforestation programs and promotion of wildfire awareness. This will be done through limited-edition Ford and Filson gear available on the Filson website. The Bronco Wild Fund, an endowment fund that receives a portion of every Bronco and Bronco Sport sale, has also donated two four-door Broncos modeled after the concept.
