  • The 2022 Ford Ranger revives the Splash appearance package that debuted back in the 1990s.
  • The $1495 package brings orange and black body-side graphics as well as black and orange interior accents, among other bits.
  • Ford will also offer limited editions of the Ranger Splash in other unique colors, starting with the Snow Edition.

Fans of retro Ford Rangers will appreciate the revival of the Splash appearance package for the 2022 model year. Back in the day–as in the ’90s–the Ford Ranger Splash (below) wore flashy monochromatic paint and vinyl decals, was offered with a lowered suspension, and sported a stepside bed. While the 2022 Ranger Splash retains its stock ride height and regular bedsides, it benefits from a snazzier exterior and special interior appointments.

The regular Splash package is distinguished by orange and black body-side graphics as well as matte black 18-inch wheels with a 12-spoke design. Orange accents are also incorporated into its grille nostrils, and numerous other bits are coated in gloss-black paint, including the bumpers and fender vents. Inside, Ford says Splash models have specially designed seats with orange contrast stitching and other special appointments. Other parts of the cabin are also set off with the Halloween hue.

Along with the regular Splash package that will be available all year long, Ford will also offer Splash Limited Editions. Wearing exclusive paint colors, they’ll be introduced, one by one, every few months in limited quantities of a few hundred. They’ll have black 18-inch rims and feature distinctive exterior and interior color combinations. The series begins with the Splash Snow Edition, but Ford hasn’t announced pricing.

Available on the XLT and Lariat trims, but only with the crew-cab body style, the regular Splash package costs $1495. It can be paired with the off-road-oriented FX2 and FX4 packages, too. Ford says deliveries of the ’22 Ranger Splash will start at the end of the year.
