Ahead of the New York auto show, but right in the middle of the press day of the Chicago auto show, automotive startup Lucid dropped a video teaser of the production version of its first vehicle, the Air.
In the video, we see the Air’s canopy glass roof and front light signature, which includes a light-up Lucid logo. While the camera sweeps over the sedan, we also see the script font for the Air’s logo appear on the C-pillar. The Dream Edition moniker is what the company is calling its first run of vehicles.
Lucid is targeting luxury customers with the Air instead of going toe to toe with Tesla with, for instance, a Model 3 fighter. The automaker claims that the Air’s range will top 400 miles and that it will be capable of going from zero to 60 mph in less than 2.5 seconds. Lucid said it will be able to accomplish this thanks to a highly efficient battery and powertrain.
Lucid states that this is the first in a series of previews ahead of the vehicle’s debut in April. So expect more images and videos between now and then. Lucid is currently taking $1000 deposits for the Air which will is scheduled to enter production by the end of 2020 in the company’s Arizona factory.
