Mercedes-Benz is adding a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine to the Sprinter Cargo van’s lineup in the U.S. for the 2020 model year. It joins the Sprinter’s existing gas-powered turbocharged 2.0-liter four and turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 diesel. The diesel four-cylinder vans will arrive by the end of the year.

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel will be the least powerful of the bunch, producing 161 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The gas-powered turbo 2.0-liter four and the turbo 3.0-liter diesel both make 190 horsepower. The four-cylinder diesels will come paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. However, unlike the six-cylinder diesel, which has the option for all-wheel drive, the four-cylinder is only offered in rear-wheel drive, and they come equipped with all-season tires.

The four-cylinder diesel Sprinter vans come equipped with standard Mercedes Pro connect digital fleet solutions, keyless start, brake hold, trailer hitch prep package, and a load-adaptive electronic stability program. Inside, dual USB-C charging on the dashboard is standard along with an adjustable steering wheel with shift paddles and a metal load compartment floor.

2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinters equipped with the four-cylinder diesel will come in three configurations: a 144-inch and 170-inch wheelbase with a standard roof and a 170-inch extended wheelbase with a high roof. They’ll arrive in U.S. dealers late this year with a starting price of $40,265 for the 144-inch, $45,595 for the 170-inch, and $47,445 for the 170-inch high roof.
